A VISUAL ARCHIVE OF WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE MEMORABILIA
The Women's Suffrage Movement fought for the right by law for women to vote in national and local elections. The movement began in earnest in the 1840s and became most intense in Great Britain and the United States as the 20th century approached. The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote, passed both houses of Congress in 1918 and was eventually ratified by the 36th state in 1920, which formally enfranchised women the right to vote on an equal basis with men.
